Five Festive Party Ideas for December Birthdays

Five Festive Party Ideas for December Birthdays

Some say December babies drew the short straw when it comes to Birthdays. With so much activity around the festive season, the addition of a Birthday celebration can feel a little shoe-horned in, but that doesn't need to be the case. We say lean into silly season and embrace the festive fun in your little ones Birthday celebration. After all, with everyone working so hard to be on the nice list, you're sure to be on the receiving end of 'best behaviour' from all little elves in attendance! Not to mention the house is pretty much already decorated, so that's one less job on the list. Here's our top five idea's to make that December Birthday one to remember:

1. Swap out party hats for Santa hats: Easy, inexpensive and a very effective way to get all little guests in the party spirit on arrival!

2. Christmas Playlist Musical Chairs: With so many upbeat playlists readily available on Spotify, this puts a nice Christmassy spin on party games for younger kids. A favourite of ours is 'Super Simple Songs' for kiddy versions of all the classics.

3. Gingerbread Man Decorating: A lovely crafty idea (which also goes down well with the over 6's) is to provide each guest with a plain gingerbread man at their place setting, and provide everything needed to create Christmas culinary masterpieces - think jellies, mini marshmallows, edible eyes, sprinkles. You can find a nice easy make-ahead recipe for Gingerbread men here, or buy ready baked (but not yet decorated) gingerbread man kids in most Aldi stores.

4. Pin the Tail on Rudolph: It's December so of course we're swapping out the donkey for our favourite reindeer! Pretty self explanatory and always a solid favourite with younger kids. You can download a free Rudolf printable here.

5. Hot Chocolate Station: A showstopper for party guests, and as much or little effort as you have to give this time of year! The easiest option here is to make a large batch of hot chocolate for a crowd and keep it warm is to use your slow-cooker if you have one, you can find a lovely simple recipe here. Then think festive paper cups (or mugs if you don't mind the potential breakage), and toppings like mini marshmallows, candy canes for stirrers, sprinkles, whipped cream. Guaranteed to be a big hit with all and ensures warm hands and tummies all-round on a cold day.
